Van 26 tot 28 mei 2020 vindt in Ahoy Rotterdam de Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) beurs plaats, de grootste beurs voor onderwaterwapens ter wereld. Het is een plek waar de militaire industrie met onderzoekers en (potentiële) klanten ontwikkelingen mbt militaire onderzeetechnologieën bespreekt, maar vooral nieuwe dodelijke producten kan promoten. Naast de verwoestende rol die deze producten spelen in voortgaande oorlogen, heeft de sonartechnologie die de militaire industrie verkoopt ook dodelijke gevolgen voor onderwaterdieren, zoals walvissen, dolfijnen en bruinvissen. Grote wapenbedrijven en onderzoeksinstituten die medeverantwoordelijk zijn voor de militarisering van de Europese grenzen, zoals Thales en TNO, nemen deel aan de beurs.
Stop the War on Migrants organiseert een open actiebijeenkomst in het Poortgebouw in Rotterdam (Stieltjesstraat 38) om te bespreken wat we kunnen doen om deze beurs te stoppen en hoe we actie kunnen ondernemen tegen de deelnemende bedrijven. Tijdens de bijeenkomst zullen we meer informatie over de beurs en de locatie geven, waarna we willen brainstormen over diverse acties. Er is voorafgaand aan de bijeenkomst een VoKu waar iedereen een heerlijke veganistische maaltijd kan krijgen.

UDT Arms Fair Open Action Meeting
From the 26th to the 28th of May 2020 Ahoy Rotterdam is hosting the Undersea Defence Technology Fair (UDT), the largest undersea arms fair of the world. It is a place where the military industry meets with researchers and clients to discuss new developments within undersea defence technology but most importantly to promote their new deathly products. Next to the devasting role these products play in ongoing wars, the sonar equipment sold by the military industry also has deathly consequences for animals living underwater such as whales, dolphins and porpoises. Big arms companies and research institutes that also bear responsibility for militarizing Europe’s borders such as Thales and TNO are participating in this fair.
Stop the War on Migrants is organizing an open action meeting at the Poortgebouw in Rotterdam to discuss what we can do to stop this fair and how we can take action against companies participating. During the meeting we will provide more information about the fair and the location after which we will brainstorm about different actions. There will be a VoKu beforhand where everybody can have a delicious vegan meal.
